The European Payment Services Directive (PSD2) has introduced higher security requirements for the releasing and processing of electronic transactions (e. g. in Online Banking). This has made it necessary to switch to future-oriented and PSD2-compliant security procedures. In this context, the iTAN procedure ("TAN list") was replaced by modern security procedures such as photoTAN or mobileTAN.

Deutsche Bank offers you the mobileTAN and photoTAN security procedures. Of course, you can also activate several security procedures.

With photoTAN, you can release transactions such as bank transfers safely and quickly. 

With the photoTAN procedure, you enter your transfer order as usual. Please select the "photoTAN" tab. Your Online Banking now generates a colored graphic - the photoTAN. Scan this graphic with your photoTAN app or photoTAN reader.

The app or reader generates a TAN from the imported graphic. This is displayed together with the order data in your app and on the reader, respectively. Check whether the data displayed matches your entries. Then enter the TAN in your Online Banking and confirm with "Execute transfer order".

The simultaneous installation of the photoTAN app and the "Deutsche Bank Mobile" app allows to enter and release orders on the same smartphone.

The mobileTAN is an alternative security procedure in Online Banking. For transactions, requiring a TAN, such as bank transfers, you can request a text message (SMS) on your mobile phone.

With the mobileTAN procedure, you enter your order as usual. Please select the "mobileTAN" tab. Check the data and then click on "request mobileTAN".

Your Online Banking immediately sends you a SMS with a TAN for your transaction and the order data from your entries. Check whether the data displayed matches your entries. Then enter the TAN and confirm with "Execute transfer order".

Note: From August 2025, it will no longer be possible to approve orders with mobileTAN.
