Are the forms available in other languages?

As an internationally active bank, Deutsche Bank AG provides all its forms in both German and English.

What is the account lead fee for the account?

Account management services for the blocked account in Germany are 6,90 EUR per month.

You can find details of charges for additional services not included in the AktivKonto account package in the current List of Prices and Services. In addition, a fee for the lock in the amount of 150,- EUR is charged.

Why does the blocked account cost €150?

This is the fee that covers setting up the account and extending the block whenever necessary, including providing confirmation to the German Embassy abroad and the immigration office in your current place of residence in Germany. You agreed to this fee when signing the account opening form and/or supplementary form for opening/extension.

I made use of the contact form several times in the past few days, but did not get a reply yet!

After the account opening I decided to study at another university / in another city. What do I have to do?

There is no need to do anything for you. Your account can be used in any city in Germany. We require no information about a possible change of the place of study.

I have already received confirmation from you and now the embassy wishes to have a different amount blocked. What do I have to do?

If the German Embassy wishes to have a different amount blocked, please send us a new supplementary form with the new details. On this form, you do not need to have your signature authenticated again by the German Embassy. Please send the supplementary form (in original) to:

Please note: to have a new, larger amount blocked, you must have the necessary balance available in your account. If necessary, you must therefore instruct a transfer of the required amount.

Can I send forms that have not been authenticated?

As authentication by the German Embassy confirms your legitimacy, it is absolutely necessary that we only receive authenticated forms from you.

Can I send faxes or scanned copies of the forms?

Due to legal regulations, we can only accept all forms in original.

I am a citizen of Russia or of a GUS-nation. Which special features I have to keep in mind?

For this nations no confirmation of the account opening documents will be effected. A consular confirmation and the confirmation of the passport is required.

I want to change my place of study. What do I have to do?

If you are in your home country, you have to do nothing. If you are in Germany please inform us about your new address.

How long will my blocked account remain opened?

Basically, your account will remain active for two years even without credit entries or additional transactions.

I received a confirmation for the account opening with incorrect e-mail address in the letter. Can this be corrected?

Due to the fact that you received the confirmation for the account opening, please be assured that in the meantime your e-mail address in our database was corrected.By the way an incorrect e-mail address has no influence on the validity of the confirmation.

What do I have to do when I arrive in Germany?

Once you have entered Germany and you have a German address registered, please fill in the “Service order to activate your block account” form on our Homepage and send it to the address below.

Can the block amount be transferred in partial sums?

You can transfer the block amount in partial sums too. Please note, we will confirm the block account only after we received the whole block amount. We did not confirm partial sums.

Can I pay in sums greater than the blocked amount?

Of course you may pay in sums greater than the required minimum balance.

Can I pay in the blocked amount by cheque or can you accept a direct debit from my account?

We are unable to accept cheques or direct debits. You can only pay in money by means of cash deposits and transfers from Germany and abroad.

At home I do not have a euro account. Can I make transfers in my home country’s currency?

You may make transfers to your account in your home country’s currency. The amount is automatically converted to euros.

Please be aware that your transfer may be subject to differences in the exchange rate and that you may be charged by your home bank.

I transferred money in different installments or made additional transfers to the requested blocked amount. Why do I get no confirmation?

You will receive only a confirmation when the full blocking deposit is credited to your account. Confirmations of installments or later credited additional funds are not provided. If there is in the meantime a change in the required blocked amounts, please send us with the transfer of your money a new supplementary form, otherwise we can not obtain any knowledge about the existing of other blocked amounts. For the correction of your blocked amounts and confirmation please send us the new supplementary form in original.

Please note that we can only accept originals. A renewed authentification by the German Embassy is not necessary.

For a new visa application the German Embassy does not accept the formerly received confirmation. Can I get a confirmation with an actual date?

How do I access my money in Germany?

Once you have arrived in Germany, you are required to submit a service order to use your blocked account. Please download a service order from the module Forms and fill it out on your PC. Print the service order and sign it. Afterwards, please send it along with your registration certificate to the following address:

You will receive a Deutsche Bank Card and PIN, which you can use to withdraw money from cash machines, make cashless payments and obtain account statements.

Please note that without this service order your account will remain blocked! This means that previously entered debits will not be executed.

Where can I withdraw cash?

You can withdraw money at our branches, at cash machines of Deutsche Bank and at banks of the Cash Group.

In Germany, this includes over 7,000 cash machines of the Cash Group (Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, HypoVereinsbank, Postbank) and numerous Shell filling stations.

You can also choose from approximately 31,000 cash machines operated by Deutsche Bank Group worldwide (e.g. in Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain) and our cooperation partners in the following countries:

Bank of America (USA), Barclays (e.g. UK), BGL BNP Paribas (Luxembourg), BNP Paribas (France), Scotiabank (e.g. Chile, Canada, Mexico), TEB (Turkey), Westpac (Australia, New Zealand).

Please note that you will be charged for withdrawing money at cash machines that do not belong to the establishments specified above (e.g. Sparkasse, Volksbank, etc.). To find out the extent of these charges, please inquire at the relevant bank.

Do I have free access to the account balance that exceeds the blocked amount?

You have free access at all times to the account balance that exceeds the blocked amount.

I cannot access any money. When can I get access to the money again?

It is possible that your account did not contain sufficient funds to cover the transfer or direct debit.

Please check your account statements to determine how much of the monthly allowance has already been used up by previous transactions.

The monthly allowance will always be made available from the first day of the month.

My transfer/direct debit was not carried out. Why not?

My account was charged €1,50. For what reason?

Your account did not contain sufficient funds to cover the transfer or direct debit. For the processing the charge was debited.

My account was charged with "Kosten für Adressnachforschung". For what reason?

Mail sent to you we received back. Please check the address you provided to us. Maybe possible additives like "c/o", "App." or " room no." are not up to date. Please visit a branch of Deutsche Bank. There your address can be updated or corrected.

What should I do if I need more money than is made available to me each month?

If you have already used up the allowance for that month and need access to further funds, we require an account release approval from your local immigration office. This must be provided in writing and in the original.

The released amount will then be made available in your account.

My visa application was not approved. How can I get my money back?

If you wish to close your account and transfer the balance to another account, we require a document from the local German immigration office responsible for issuing of the residence permit, which contents the deblocking of your account or the original notice of rejection for the visa application and written instructions to close the account and transfer the balance. Be advised that a deregistration or a border crossing certificate is not acceptable for us.

What needs to be included in the account closure application?

In order to quickly and correctly process the closure of your account, we require the signed account closure application (in original) as well as the following details:

— Name and address of the transfer recipient (Please make sure that you provide your current home address)
— Recipient’s account number/IBAN
— Recipient’s sort code/BIC
— Name and address of the recipient’s bank

Which type of documents are acceptable for deblocking the account?

For deblocking the account acceptable documents are exclusivly documents by German immigration authorities, embassies or consulates which contain phrases that the blocking will be released. Not accepted are therefore:

— visa refusal
— remonstrance notice
— deregistration certificate
— border crossing certificate
— entry documents from your home country or third party countries
— marriage certificate (by marriage with a German citizen)
— German identity card (after naturalization)
— custom-made letter to release the blocking

I finished my studies in Germany and want to use my blocked account furthermore. Is that possible?

Following the expiry of the blocking your account will continue to operate as a normal current account. To answer all of your questions do not hesitate to contact the member of staff in our branches.

I have finished my studies and am leaving Germany. Do I have to close my account?

Yes. To do this, please submit an account closing application.

How much time is needed to close the account?

Once all documents, necessary for the account closing are available, your account will be closed as soon as possible. Usually this will take up to a week, in international transfer cases up to two weeks. Bare in mind that an account release is eventually required by the immigration office.

My account has still not been closed. Why not?

It is possible that you did not send the complete set of required documents or did not include all necessary details about the bank account which should receive the payment. This would prevent us from closing the account and transferring the balance.
